This is footage from our run through or actually the very first time we work together. Rueben Ingall composer (experimental electronic) and myself performed an installation piece interested in the textures of pebbles! ha! Close Range was an event curated by Alex Boynes (manager of CCAS) as part of their 2011 program.

successful arts application
ACT (Australia) Minister of Arts Joy Burch just announced that my project No Place is awarded the ArtsACT grant for developing the work in 2012. This is off course great news as I will spend time with my artistic team: Amelia McQueen, Sarah Kaur, Shoeb Ahmad, Janine Proost, Holly Diggle and Alison Plevey developing this interdisciplinary project. The process will be documented on...

movement research practice with Rosalind Crisp
Over the last two weeks I have been working with choreographer and dancer Rosalind Crisp and seven Australian dancers/choreographers in a ‘movement research practice’ workshop held at Critical Path Sydney. Rosalind has invited us in to her vast “net” of frameworks, scores, tools and constantly asked us: what keeps you interested? what are you not allowing? We have had...

from second stage development to production...
On the last day of the residency we invited friends and peers to see our work and to give feed back. Great conversations and interesting thoughts came out of that. They were engaged and felt drawn into our ‘intimate and remote’ performance. Many of them felt they could/wanted to walk amongst us and come closer to our screen’s (we are using laptop’s for skype and facebook)...

Friday week 1
It’s been a very creative and productive week. We developed 4 scenes so far. Matt (composer of Sarah’s previous works) came in today to watch and give feedback. It was interesting to hear how he read it and also what he was drawn to. Really helped us for next week I think. We finished with a local beer at Clancy’s Fish Bar on City Beach. I am truly loving this residency!!

Remote Real, second stage development
I’m back in Fremantle. Really feel at home here. We started our second stage development today in the Deckchair Theatre http://www.deckchairtheatre.com.au/ It is so nice to be back and work there. Today we had a really good start with our usual physical warm up, then we started exploring new stuff which led into developing a scene with Helen Duncan and Maitland Schnaars. It’s...

platform: idact
I have been working on setting up this platform for the independent dance artists in Canberra. It all started as a result of a project that Ausdance ACT managed in 2009. Applicants propose a project which they want to develop with mentoring from dancer/choreographer Liz Lea. As Liz put her structure in place, it soon became clear that it was complex to manage. We all had very different needs,...

This is a research project for which i have applied funding from the artsACT. no place is a creative development of a new physical theater work looking at the boundaries between “the real” versus “the fictive”. the project is based on my interest in the psychology of perception. Event 'Dance on the Edge' at BAC.
There was a group of 60 or so in the audience today which is pretty good! Dav and I opened the event in “silence” as Neil Roach Dir of Ausdance said, meaning no music. It went pretty good. I felt slightly preoccupied with the floor being a bit slippery. I liked our beginning, very casual standing next to each other. It was funny because Hanna Semler the director of BAC did an...

Our dance film ‘Toes’ was screened in The International Film Festival in Singapore last week. Full house! Toes features me improvising with David Corbet (filming). It’s a studio-based exercise in real-time composition and an investigation into editing as a choreographic medium. http://www.filmfest.org.sg/displayFilm.php?filmID=127&filmCat=8

independent dance act
I have initiated a web platform for Canberra based independent dance artists. The idea of this platform is for it to function as a ‘shared space’ where we can display our work, discuss our artistic practice and future projects. It gives us the opportunity to be involved with peers’ artistic practice and to feel part of the professional dance community in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). My...
